In-Home Lice Removal: What to Expect

Our technicians bring everything needed for complete removal, in the comfort of your home.

What happens during your visit

1

Arrival and setup

Our technician arrives at your home with all the equipment needed. The only thing needed from you is seating near good light. They'll introduce themselves, answer any questions, and walk you through the process.

2

Assessment

Next, a thorough head check for all family members to identify who needs treatment.

3

Sectioned comb-out

We're certified in and follow the Shepherd Method™ of sectioned comb outs and manual strand by strand nit removal. This process removes not only the adult lice, but the nits that stick to the hair.

First, the technician will apply a lice shampoo, then do a thorough comb out with a professional-grade lice comb. This removes a majority of the eggs and live lice.

The next step is a strand-by-strand removal, where the technician sections hair and manually removes nits. This part is absolutely critical to keeping lice from coming back.

Finally, dimethicone oil is applied and combed through. This non-toxic silicone is found in many body care and cosmetic products. It's a heavy oil that coats and immobilizes any leftover lice and makes them easier to comb out.

4

Final check and education

Once the removal is complete, the technician does a final pass to confirm the hair is clear. They'll walk you through aftercare instructions, answer any remaining questions, and go over your 4-week guarantee and what it covers.

Still have questions?

Do I need to do anything special to prepare my home?
Nope! The good news is that lice can't survive for more than 2 days off the human head, so a full household decontamination is not necessary. Focus on drying or freezing items that came in contact with the head in the last 3 days. We'll provide a checklist at the end of your appointment.
Is the treatment safe for young children?
Yes. Our process is 100% chemical-free and relies entirely on manual comb-outs. It's safe for children of all ages, including toddlers, as well as people who are pregnant or have sensitive scalps.
What if my child won't sit still?
Totally normal. Our technicians are experienced working with young kids. We recommend having a favorite show, movie, or tablet ready. Short breaks are fine, and we'll work at a pace that keeps your child comfortable.
How do I know if the lice came back or were missed?
If you see activity within the first few days, it's more likely something was missed during treatment. Contact us right away and we'll make it right. If it appears weeks later, it's more likely a re-infestation from school or close contact. Either way, your 4-week guarantee covers you.
Can I book for multiple family members at once?
Yes, and we recommend it. Treating the whole household in one visit is more efficient and helps ensure no one is re-infesting treated family members.
